L-1 picks up Wash. state fingerprinting deal

L-1 Identity Solutions Inc. will provide digital fingerprinting technology to Washington state's Department of Social and Health Services under a six-year contract that could be worth $7 million.

Under the contract, Integrated Biometric Technology LLC, an L-1 unit, will construct a statewide network to process digital fingerprint applications before licenses are granted to prospective caregivers of children or those who might have unsupervised access to vulnerable adults. The fingerprints are used to assist with background checks.

The services will initially cover the Department of Social and Health Services' Children's Administration and the Aging and Disability Services Administration, the company said.

IBT plans initially to open 16 centers statewide to handle fingerprint enrollment. The company might eventually expand the number of centers to 30.

Company officials said they expect to process applications from more than 185,000 residents over the life of the contract.

L-1 of Stamford, Conn., offers products and solutions for protecting and securing personal identities and assets.
