ACS wins municipal traffic safety deal

Affiliated Computer Services Inc. will continue operating traffic camera program for Winnipeg, Canada, under a new contract worth $25 million over five years.

Under the terms of the agreement, ACS will operate traffic cameras at intersections throughout the capital of Manitoba. The work is part of a public safety program aimed at cutting down on red-light running and speeding.

As part of its work, ACS processes violations, mails notices, monitors camera equipment and produces program reports.

The city has cameras in place to monitor 48 intersections and also has 10 vehicles that allow public safety officials to monitor other sites. The company has worked with the city on the project for the past five years.

ACS manages photo enforcement for a number of large American cities, including Atlanta, Baltimore, Dallas, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

ACS, based in Dallas, specializes in business process and information technology outsourcing for the commercial and government sectors. The company ranks No. 58 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
