Oracle Corp. this month said it plans to buy performance management software developer Hyperion Inc. of Springfield, Ill., for about $3.3 billion.Although users of Hyperion and Oracle software may find they will more easily merge their strategic plans with their operational data, industry observers also worry that those that use non-Oracle platforms may experience "a rough road ahead." This might occur if Oracle should decide that rather than continue to develop Hyperion software, the company will transfer its functionality to its own suite.QinetiQ North America has completed its $173 million acquisition of defense IT provider Analex Corp. of Fairfax, Va.The buy brings QNA, the U.S. subsidiary of QinetiQ Ltd., Farnborough, U.K., important new customer relationships in the U.S. government.Analex has had long-term relationships with the Missile Defense Agency, the Army, Navy and NASA.ATS Corp. has acquired Reliable Integration Services Inc., a network systems integrator for defense and civilian federal government customers. Terms were not disclosed.Reliable Integration Services, now a unit of ATS, will continue in McLean, Va., where ATS also is based.In-Q-Tel, the CIA's private venture capital firm, made a strategic investment in StreamBase Systems Inc., a provider of high-performance complex event processing software.The investment gives In-Q-Tel of Arlington, Va., an equity stake in Lexington, Mass.-based StreamBase, a StreamBase official said.Although neither organization released any financial details, an In-Q-Tel official said the firm traditionally invests between $500,000 and $3 million in a technology company.
