Who's on first?

Michael Springman was named CIO for Northrop Grumman Corp.'s Mission Systems in Reston, Va. Springman most recently was division director of battle command for the sector.

Girish Varma joined Qwest Communications International Inc. of Denver as vice president and CIO. Varma until September was vice president of global applications services and telecom center of competency at IBM Corp.

Bob Shevock joined IT, geospatial, engineering and program management services provider Avineon Inc., Alexandria, Va., as director of systems engineering and integration in the company's Defense Systems division. Shevock formerly was with the Defense Department's Missile Defense Agency, most recently serving as Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense systems engineering and architecture division head.

Joseph Chinnici, senior vice president of finance and CFO of Ciena Corp., and former Air Force inspector general and Lt. Gen. Steven Polk were named to the board of directors for IT intrusion detection solution provider Sourcefire Inc., Columbia, Md.

Elaine Dezenski joined Cross Match Technologies Inc., Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., as senior vice president of global government affairs in the company's Washington office. Dezenski formerly was a security official with the Homeland Security Department since its inception and previous to the formation of DHS, with the Transportation Department.

Theodore McFarland joined Edward W. Kelley and Partners of Chicago as a vice president of the global executive search firm's technology practice. McFarland most recently was marketing vice president at International Launch Services, a joint venture of Lockheed Martin Corp. and Khrunichev Space Research Center.

Cheryl Walker Waldrup joined biometric identity assurance software developer Daon Inc., Reston, Va., as global marketing director. Waldrup most recently was strategic marketing executive for American Systems Corp.

John Casciano joined LexisNexis Special Services Inc. of Washington as senior vice president and chief operating officer. Casciano most recently was director of Ball Aerospace and Technologies Corp.'s national capital area business unit. He retired in 1999 from the Air Force as a Major General and director of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance.

Gerhard Bommas, chief technology officer of Technology Officer of ND SatCom AG, Immenstaad, Germany, and Malcolm Warren, Asia-Pacific director at ViaSat Inc. of San Diego, have been named to the international board of directors of the World Teleport Association of New York.

At CGI Federal Inc., Fairfax, Va., in the company's consulting department: Lynne Bushey to vice president and head of the company's General Services Administration account team; Gail Guseman to vice president and head of the company's accounts with the House of Representatives, Library of Congress, Patent and Trademark Office and the Treasury Department's Debt Management Service; and Sergio Rodriguez to vice president and head of the Interior Department's National Business Center, and the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts business practices.

At Aerospace Corp., El Segundo, Calif., in the company's engineering and technology group: Robert Frueholz to general manager of the communications and networking division; William Hiatt to general manager of the electronics and sensors division; William Kerns to general manager of the computers and software division; and Marilee Wheaton to general manager of the systems engineering division.

At Intelsat Inc., New Hyde Park, N.Y.: Linda Kokkali to senior vice president and treasurer.

Marvin Fisher joined Carter and Burgess Inc., Fort Worth, Texas, as a program manager for building programs in Fort Worth. Fisher recently retired from the Air Force as a colonel and one of the top senior leaders in the service's civil engineering department.
