What is XBRL?

eXtensible Business Reporting Language provides identifying tags for each individual item of data in financial information. For example, a company's net profit has its own unique tag.

The tags allow for automated processing of business information, saving time and labor, because manual re-entry and comparison is not needed. Computers can select, analyze, store and exchange tagged data automatically and present it in a variety of formats.
