California puts a finger on it

The California Department of General Services wants to develop a statewide fingerprint imaging system. An RFP is expected in April.

The statewide system aims to prevent and detect duplicate aid in programs, including work opportunity, responsibility to kids and food stamps. California wants to thwart attempts to open more than one public assistance case for each person.

The system will use Windows workstations, central site Unix servers, a relational database management system and automatic fingerprint identification hardware and software.
