This analysis of political contributions was done by the Center for Responsive Politics, a non-profit, non-partisan research group in Washington that tracks money in politics.

At the request of Washington Technology, the center analyzed the political contributions of the Washington Technology Top 100, an annual ranking of the leading companies in the federal IT industry.

The center got its information from the Federal Election Commission reports for the 2000 election cycle and the 2004 election cycle as of Sept. 13.

The center's analysis is based on reported contributions of $200 or more by executives, employees, spouses, and immediate families, and political action committees of Top 100 companies. Totals include subsidiaries and affiliates.

Any data from election cycles before 2004 includes soft money contributions, which now are prohibited.
