DOD offers buying rules

The Defense Department in February proposed publishing 14 new rules in the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement to streamline the acquisition process.

Published Feb. 23 by the Office of the Director of Defense Procurement and Acquisition Policy, the proposed rules deal with major systems acquisition, including establishing a framework for a DFARS companion resource and deleting or revising hundreds of pages of obsolete text.

A task force will propose much-needed changes to eliminate some of the rules and policies that bog down the procurement process, officials said.

Comments on the proposed rules should be submitted before April 23. The DFARS text for the rules will be available at www.acq.osd.mil/dpap/dfars/changes.htm.
