IRS rolls out tax pro tools

The Internal Revenue Service has introduced Internet-based business tools for tax professionals.

Developed by Computer Sciences Corp., El Segundo, Calif., as part of its IRS modernization contract, the tools are the first components of a suite of e-services tools. E-services will streamline several processes tax professionals perform regularly and improve business collaboration with the IRS.

The e-services initiative is part of CSC Prime Alliance's IRS modernization contract, awarded in December 1998 to CSC. The contract is worth $5 billion over 15 years.

"The e-services applications are just a few of the major business system modernizations the Prime Alliance has completed for the IRS since 2000," said Jim Sheaffer, general manager of the alliance. "The applications are the first in a series of applications releases that will empower taxpayers to do more through the IRS' Web site."
