Safecom program RFI released

The Homeland Security Department released the request for information for Project Safecom, the initiative to connect wireless first-responder systems across federal, state and local agencies.

By Nov. 14, the department wants five- to seven-page white papers describing technologies, services or concepts for the project. Safecom is the umbrella program within the government to help more than 44,000 local, tribal, state and federal public safety agencies improve the efficiency and interoperability of their wireless communications systems.

According to the RFI, a broad agency announcement under which Safecom may fund demonstration projects is likely to follow. The RFI is at FedBizOpps.gov, search term: SAFECOM.
