The Senate Aug. 1 unanimously confirmed President Bush's appointment of Mark Everson as deputy director for management in the Office of Management and Budget.

Everson will serve as chairman of the President's Management Council, leading the team of cabinet department and major agency chief operating officers in implementing the President's Management Agenda. Everson also will have an important role in transition planning for the new Department of Homeland Security, OMB said.

The administration has operated without a deputy director for management since the president took office. Everson joined the administration in August 2001 and has been serving as controller of the Office of Federal Financial Management since his confirmation last November.
