INS wants entry-exit proposals

A request for proposals is expected in June for the Immigration and Naturalization Service's entry-exit system to track the comings and goings of noncitizens.

The system has $380 million proposed for it in the fiscal 2003 budget. It must enable the INS to establish the identity of individuals who want to visit the United States and verify their identity when they enter the country.

The system must note if noncitizens have overstayed their visas or entry documents. Officials also must be notified if a person is identified as a national security threat.

In addition to the INS, primary federal users include the departments of Justice, State, Treasury and Transportation.

The INS plans to award at least one indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contracts against which task orders will be awarded competitively.
