Accenture Ltd. and Hewlett-Packard Co. formed a strategic alliance to provide information technology outsourcing services to government agencies and private enterprises.

The alliance follows a three-year, informal collaboration during which Accenture of Hamilton, Bermuda, and HP of Palo Alto, Calif., worked together on 15 separate enterprise resource planning projects.

The two firms will focus on migrating legacy mainframe applications to next-generation platforms and supporting backward integration to legacy applications.

One of the projects on which the companies collaborated was the installation of enterprise resource planning software developed by SAP America Inc. of Newtown Square, Pa., for Halliburton Co. of Dallas, an energy services company.

Involving 371 sites in 117 countries, the Halliburton installation was one of the largest SAP solution deployments in the world, according to the companies.
