Affiliated Computer Services Inc. has acquired Bowers and Associates Inc., a Wisconsin-based provider of productivity management services and health care data analytics.

ACS paid $8 million in cash, plus contingent payments based on future financial performance, for the company.

The acquisition of Bowers will broaden ACS' government health care business to include delivery of accredited care management services for high-risk beneficiaries, said Christopher Deelsnyder, senior vice president and managing director of government health care solutions at ACS.

All of Bowers' employees will join ACS.

Bowers' expertise in health care management and informatics will strengthen ACS' Informed Health offerings, which give physicians, pharmacists, payers and patients access to clinical and claims information from a wide variety of previously unconnected sources, the company said. Bowers' suite of modeling, profiling, reporting and health risk prediction tools is considered among the most innovative in the industry, ACS added.

Bowers provides health care management services and analytic tools to government and commercial organizations whose employees are covered beneficiaries of health insurance plans. Bowers manages care for approximately 225,000 plan members.

ACS supports more than 23 million program recipients and processes nearly 550 million Medicaid health care claims annually, representing almost $50 billion in provider payments. ACS serves 28 states, the District of Columbia and the Department of Labor with drug expenditure claims totaling more than $13 billion.

ACS of Dallas ranks No. 58 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
